Translation | English Grammar


The translation is the art of translating a sentence of one language into another language.


Let us show you some simple ways to translate Hindi sentences into English.

(A) The first requirement for translation is that you must identify the various parts of the sentence, such as Subject, Verb, Object, Adverb, Preposition, etc. 
(B) What is the configuration of the English sentence in the tense of which the sentence is? For this, it is necessary to have knowledge of tenses. It is not possible to write good English without complete knowledge of tenses.
(C) After tenses, for correct translation, we should have knowledge of certain rules like:
  • Subject-verb agreement
  • Sequence of tenses
  • Rules regarding Determiners, Articles, Adverbs, Adjectives, Prepositions, Noun, Pronoun, Conjunctions, Interjections, Modals, etc.
  • Reported speech, Voices
  • Types of sentences 

Translation made easy

First of all, you need to know how to identify the different parts (like Subject, Verb, Object, Preposition, etc.) used in a sentence? How to make English of these parts and keep them organized in sentences?

(1) Subject (कर्ता)

In any sentence, the Subject is the one who performs the action, who performs whatever work is done in the sentence. 

साधारण हिंदी वाक्य में अंतिम शब्द (यदि वाक्य के अंत में है, हूँ, हो इत्यादि आता है तो इससे पहले वाला शब्द) जो वास्तव में वाक्य की क्रिया (Verb) है से कौन, किसने अथवा किन्हीने जैसे प्रश्न करने पर जो उत्तर आता है, वह भी इस वाक्य का Subject है|

Look at the following example:

(i) राम फुटबॉल खेलता है|

इस वाक्य के अंतिम शब्द 'है' से पूर्व वाले शब्द 'खेलता' (जो वास्तव में Verb है) से कौन प्रश्न करने पर उत्तर मिलता है - राम | अतःराम इस वाक्य का Subject है |

(2) Verb (क्रिया)

A verb is a specially important part of a sentence.

हिंदी वाक्य के अंतिम शब्द (यदि वाक्य के अंत में हैं, हूँ इत्यादि है तो उससे पहले का शब्द) को Verb कहते हैं | उपरोक्त वाक्य (i) में 'खेलता' Verb है |

(3) Object (कर्म)

हिंदी वाक्य में Subject एवं Verb की पहचान करने के बाद आपको Verb से कहां, किसको, किनको जेसे प्रश्न करने पर जो उत्तर मिलता है वह वाक्य का Object है|

उपरोक्त वाक्य में वाक्य (i) की Verb खेलता से क्या प्रश्न करने पर उत्तर मिलता है - फुटबॉल| अतः वाक्य का Object फुटबॉल है|


To translate the Hindi sentence into English identify the tense of the sentence. According to the syntax, write the English words for different parts of the sentence.

Subject + is/am/are + Verb + ing + Object

Example:- Ram is playing football.


Notes:-
  • यदि किसी वाक्य में 'हमेशा, कभी नहीं, अक्सर' जैसे शब्द आए तो इनका अनुवाद Verb से पहले लिखना होता है| 
  • वाक्य में आने वाली prepositions जैसे 'से, मैं, को, पर, के, हैं| Prepositions को हिंदी वाक्य में जिस शब्द के बाद इनका प्रयोग हुआ है, अंग्रेजी अनुवाद करते समय उस शब्द के अनुवाद के पहले लगाया जाता है|   

Some Examples 

    Hindi - वह हमेशा सच बोलता है|
    English - He always speaks the truth.

    Hindi - मैं प्रतिदिन फुटबॉल खेलता हूं|
    English - I play football every day. 

    Hindi - राम अक्सर यहां आता है|
    English - Ram often comes here.
