1. Use Strong Passwords :- A strong password is a combination of alphanumeric and special characters. Do not use your mobile number, friend's name, etc for a password. Change your password frequently at least once in two or three weeks. 

2. Backup Your Data :-  Always keep copies of your personal data in CDs, pendrives, etc. This may be helpful in a loss of data situation. 

3. Do Not Share Personal Information :- Never share your personal information while filling online forms.

4. Secure Transactions :- Be careful while doing transactions on the Internet. Your account details, credit card number or online banking personal information can be tracked and used by unauthorized users known as hackers. Make sure, the website is legitimate. 

5. Install Firewalls :-  Fireball act as a bridge between your computer and other systems from which you are getting data. 

6. Never Install Software from Unknown Sources :- Verify the source or website while downloading any product or software. 

7. Clear Browser Cookies Frequencies :-  Cookies are the program that are created on your local computer when you visit websites. 

8. Use Antivirus and Antispyware Software :- You should ensure your system safety and security by following some guidelines and rules : 
  • Install an anti-virus program on your computer or laptop. 
  • Always keep antivirus software up-to-date. 
  • Do not download the files or information from unauthorized sources on the Internet. 
  • Never reply to unknown emails. 
  • Never use a foreign disk or CD without scanning it for viruses.

An antivirus software is a program that detects, prevents from malicious program such as viruses. You can protect your system against viruses by using antivirus softwares, like Quick Heal, Avira, Kaspersky, Norton, etc 

An antivirus software performs following function : 
  • It scans every file on the computer. 
  • It scans all drives and outside pen drive or CD on the computer. 
  • It scans incoming emails for attached virus. 
  • It may detect spyware on the computer.
